The mission of the Lawrence Arts Center is to enrich individuals and the community by nurturing love of the arts through education, exploration and expression. For over 30 years, the Lawrence Arts Center has acted as a unifying force in our community, drawing people of all ages, neighborhoods, backgrounds and abilities to participate in an ever-growing array of education, exhibition and performance programs. The facility has two exhibition galleries, gallery sales shop, theater, and twelve studios for art, drama, dance, and preschool classes. Classes are offered year-round for youth and adults.

Americana Music Academy offers group and private music lessons in a relaxed setting with some of the region's most notable pickers, players and songwriters. In addition, Americana provides Music Therapy for the disabled community in Lawrence and the greater Kansas City area. Americana is also building Kansas's first American Roots Music Archive.
In the future, Americana will provide music outreach programs, first for Northeast Kansas and later for the entire state.
Americana is doing more than just teaching music lessons. It is creating a regional folk life center so that Lawrence and the surrounding cities and towns will have greater access to the musical folk culture of this area.

They provide journal, magazine and book manufacturing, online publishing, and a variety of other publishing services, including copyediting, managing editing, online peer review, mailing services, business management, meeting management, marketing, advertising, distribution, and warehouse fulfillment.
Allen Press has been operating in Lawrence since 1935 when Harold Allen, founder of the company, started a two-man print shop in the basement of a downtown bank building. They printed their first scientific journal in 1952, the Wilson Bulletin, an ornithological journal that we are still printing today. Currently they employ more than 400 people and provide services for more than 300 academic societies and organizations.
